Heat mats: warmth where your propagation tray sits

A cool windowsill or cold shelf can chill a propagation tray more than the room temperature suggests. A heat mat adds warmth directly beneath a propagator. It is designed for this limited area and does not replace room heating.

Choose the size to fit the space

First measure the footprint of your tray and the available space. The ROOT!T heat mats listed here come in 25 × 35 cm at 11 W, 40 × 60 cm at 30 W and 40 × 120 cm at 60 W. The long version can accommodate several suitably sized trays. A higher wattage also covers a larger heated area; it does not automatically mean a higher temperature in every pot.

The temperature reached in the growing medium depends partly on the surroundings and arrangement. A fixed temperature increase cannot be promised for every combination. These mats are intended for protected environments, not exposed outdoor use.

When to add a thermostat

A separate ROOT!T thermostat switches the mat on and off according to the measured temperature. This is particularly useful when the room warms up during the day. Plan the probe position in the area you want to control and choose the temperature for the particular plant. Before buying, check the plug type and permitted total load, especially if you intend to control several mats.
