Understand your nutrient solution with pH and EC
When preparing a nutrient solution, pH and EC provide different information. The pH value indicates how acidic or alkaline the solution is. Electrical conductivity, or EC, helps assess dissolved salts, but does not identify the individual nutrients present. This category brings together measuring instruments, calibration solutions and pH adjusters for plant care.
Choose a method for your application
Dedicated meters measure pH or EC, while combination instruments cover several parameters. Handheld devices and monitors serve different routines. Direct measurement in a growing medium requires a suitable probe: a meter designed for water is not automatically suitable for insertion into soil. A liquid pH indicator offers a colour comparison without an electronic instrument.
Check, calibrate and adjust carefully
Compare your source water with the fully mixed nutrient solution. Select target values according to the growing medium, crop and feeding schedule. Use the reference solutions specified for your meter, and follow its instructions for sensor cleaning and storage. If adjustment is required, pH down lowers the value and pH up raises it. Add small quantities as directed on the product, mix thoroughly and measure again. Recording the results makes changes easier to follow and helps you compare later measurements.
