PLANT!T Vermiculit Substratzusatz, 10 Liter

PLANT!T Vermiculite is a natural, sterile, and soft mica mineral (vermiculite) that is used as a substrate additive primarily where water needs to be reliably retained in the root zone. The manufacturer describes it as a medium with very high water retention capacity and, at the same time, pronounced insulation properties. This means: Vermiculite can keep moisture available in your chosen medium for longer and simultaneously help to "insulate" the substrate against rapid temperature changes. Especially when soil, coco, or mixed substrates in the pot dry out quickly or fluctuate strongly during weather changes, this buffering effect in the root zone can be crucial – not because vermiculite "supplies" nutrients, but because it stabilizes the environment for water and nutrient solution. In addition, PLANT!T Vermiculite offers a high cation exchange capacity (CEC). This allows it to absorb nutrients that reach the substrate in solution during watering and then slowly release them back to the plant. The manufacturer explicitly states this as an advantage: Bound nutrients can be made available again with a time delay, instead of being immediately washed out with every watering. According to the manufacturer, PLANT!T Vermiculite is odorless, lightweight, simple to use, and safe to handle. For everyday use, this means: You can use it as an additive specifically where the medium seems "too dry" or loses water too quickly.

PLANT!T mentions several specific areas of application: When propagating from seeds, vermiculite is described as helpful because its water retention can support germination by keeping moisture more constant. In propagation, vermiculite can also be used as a thin top layer to reduce evaporation and thereby keep the microclimate in the propagation area more stable. For pot and container plantings (for example, in potting soil or potting compost), the manufacturer mentions three main points: retaining moisture for longer, protecting against unfavorable weather, and facilitating rewetting after drying out. Another manufacturer note: Due to its insulation properties, vermiculite can help reduce plant stress during extreme weather conditions. For soil improvement, PLANT!T especially recommends vermiculite as an additive for sandy, weak, or "poor" soils and also for dried-out subsoils, because the high water retention capacity has a clear benefit there. This product is the 10-liter bag; the grain size is specified as V3 Medium with a nominal size range of 2.0–5.0 mm. PLANT!T summarizes it simply: If you want to retain water in the medium, you mix vermiculite into your chosen substrate. According to the manufacturer, it is available in the assortment in 10-liter and 100-liter containers, whereby the 10-liter bag is ideal if you want to test it first or mix smaller batches.

As substrate additives for more air and water flow, for example, Plagron Perlite 10 L (perlite, mineral) and Gold Label Coco Perlite 70/30 (coco-perlite mix) are available as two different mixing approaches to choose from. For propagation and breeding, Eazy Plug Tray with 24 pieces as a cutting and seed substrate and ROOT!T Rooting Gel 150 ml as a rooting aid can be combined.
